I saw a hummingbird today. It was blur of blue-green motion lifting off between the Chinese Butterfly Rose and the pink and white bicolor ornamental salvias. It buzzed off into one of Barry's trees across the street. I haven't seen a hummingbird but once before here at this house and that's been several years. I'm so glad that they have found something tasty to sip in my "garden."There is a tropical storm formed off the coast of Africa, Bertha I think is the name. Arrgh. I took a quick look at Accuweather and so far I'm not worried; it looks like she'll take a turn to the north before she gets to threatening Gainesville. Arrgh, it's too early in the season to have to start worrying about the damned hurricanes. Arrgh! Arrgh! Arrgh!
I went out, came back, went over to check something on the computer and my screen was frozen. Well, hell, that happens from time to time. I ended program and rebooted. Even without trying to get back online, after my system was back up, it started telling me, hey, there's a problem with some aol thingy, and some other danger danger danger will robinson message. I re-rebooted. Still no joy. I might have re-re-rebooted, I dunno. And I found a disc and put it in the tray and loaded aol back on the computer. Hey, it tells me, you've got a newer version than this already installed. Oh my god, really?!?! Yes, I really do want to install you. Uh huh. So woo hoo! I'm back. Sort of. Then I went to download the most current version. Slow going.
I'm sure all my Favorite Places are lost. So sad. And I made so little headway moving stuff over to del.icio.us. It's such tedious work.
Probably more to say but I can't remember what it is.
Arizona's Hindi accent remains better than mine, at least on some words. Sad that it will most likely be wasted on her. She has never shown a great desire to travel, but then, most housecats don't.
I have been planning to bring the first CD into the house and put it into the computer so that I can listen to it as background noise whilst I do other things online and such. When I finish the second CD, I'll bring it in and so forth. I plan to put one in the laptop too. That way I can listen in the car, the house, on the laptop. If I'm not listening intently, just letting it seep in, I might be able to pick up some by osmosis. I don't know. When I'm driving and listening I often reach a sudden moment of Hindi overload and I have to switch off the lesson. I know that Hindi and English are related languages but it's hard to see. The only word that I've come across that I can make a connection with is (and I have no idea how to transcribe it) "meh," the word for I. Granted, though, my vocabulary is incredibly small. The second learn Hindi package that I picked up has a book with it and sooner rather than later expects me to learn Devanagri. Oy. I used to know a couple letters in that, years ago. I could write out, quite laboriously, Om Namah Shivaya and maybe a couple other words. It's been so long. But even that's all lost.
But, wow oh wow, Deathly Hallows has been released in Hindi! Oh my god! Isn't that a trip! I could buy novels in translation and force my way painfully slowly through them.
Oh, yeah, like that will ever happen.
I get a little writing done every other day or so. Never very much here. Internet connections are so seductive.
Pat has once again mentioned the idea of getting together at Amrit Palace and such. She said she thinks about retiring and she says "who do I know? who are my friends but you guys." I'm sure I've paraphrased. So I will try once again to organize a get-together and ask Pat to along. I'm sure attendance will be much better.
