Quote of the day: I'll be seeing you, in every lovely summer's day, in everything that's light and gay, I'll always think of you that way. I'll find you in the morning sun and when the night is new, I'll be looking at the moon, but I'll be seeing you. (I'll Be Seeing You, Irving Kahal)
It's been a long week and I'm tired. I feel like I should post something but don't want to write. Arrgh. Or perhaps it's that I don't want to think.
I had an idea for a peacock carousel animal. Okay, that's not exactly correct. I had toyed with the idea but suddenly realized that I wouldn't have to fabricate the whole thing. I could carve the body in wax and cast it in fine silver. Fine silver is a tad problematic but not a whole lot. It lacks the strength of sterling but if I wanted to ename the body, well, depletion gilding sterling doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense, as I would lose detail. So fine silver it is. The tail, I could go either way. (And if I wanted to be really insane, and believe me, I'll mention it to Pat, it's fun to watch the steam come out of her ears, I could do the tail in plique-a-jour. Sigh, wipes tears from eyes. I've got to make my own fun, you know.) But in a sane universe, which I generally inhabit, I'll choose fabrication. Copper is cheaper than silver and I could use foil in areas if I wanted to use transparents. Silver, fine silver, would fit with the body more easily.
Sigh, it's sad to think that the back of the tail won't be as pretty as the front.
Sigh.
Plique a jour would solve that dilemma.
Get back, Satan! Get back! Plique a jour, indeed!
But on mica...
Well...
I do need to get some new mica, after all...
Okay, so did I tell you that I'm going to cast the body of a peacock and make the tail with plique a jour? Isn't that a fantabulous idea?
A few days ago a song came into my head that I haven't thought of in a while. Don't know what triggered it. Damn. And it's a good song. So I've been finding different versions just now of it on youtube. Who would have guessed that I would prefer Frank Sinatra's version to Rosemary Clooney's! I mean, hell, I love The Girl Singer. And generally, well, don't love Old Blue Eyes.
Damn! I need a nickname.
And Brenda Lee, oh, poor dear, she just shouldn't have gotten out of bed to record that. Oy! What was she thinking? What was her A&R man thinking?
Hmmmm, let's see. Planning (let's see if if really happens) to get in to the studios tomorrow. To do some metalsmithing in the one and some ink mixing in the other. Or at least pick up my inks from the one and bring them down to M165 so that I could mix in there whilst waiting on the metal stuff. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I did mix up a bit, not enough to use, but enough to satisfy myself that getting the color I want is not going to be difficult, of a nice creamy ivory color. It's perfect for the bottle's label and the cheese and board. Yep. I started on an ambery color but didn't get far. I also worked on a red for the wine but haven't gotten it quite there yet. Lots to do, obviously.
But the black is just right. Seeing as it's black, after all. And I'll use the grey from the last time, only thinned way out with loads of transparent base.
